1. Production of round acacia stakes

Acacia Poles

Production of round acacia stakes. Debarker for removing bark from tree trunks with diameters up to 8 to 14 cm.

Diameter of stakes

"A tree, a stake" The diameter of the stakes depends directly on the raw material, unlike sawn or split stakes. The logs (tree trunks) are sorted according to their diameter. It should be noted that the bark of the acacia is thick (about 1 cm) and rots quickly, hence the importance of removing it. For example, an acacia stake 6 cm in diameter will have a diameter of 8 cm if the bark is included. This underlines the importance of managing log stocks well because, when there are no more small acacia trunks 8 cm in diameter with bark, 6 cm diameter stakes can no longer be produced.

Debarking process

Debarking is done using special machines that can handle the slight curvatures specific to acacia. These machines are different from the classic debarkers used to produce round posts in softwood, such as pine or spruce. In fact, classic debarkers could only partially debark acacia trunks, leaving large pieces of bark.

The stakes are sharpened using a chainsaw for large diameter stakes and a mechanical pointer for smaller diameters.

The stakes are then placed on pallets according to their diameters (measured in the middle of the stakes).

Each pallet has the same number of stakes - which varies according to the diameters. This makes stock management easier.
